ink! CARES

There’s a reason the best coffee grows at altitude, higher elevation creates more complex, nuanced beans. At ink! Coffee this simple truth is also at the core of everything we do. As a Colorado company that started in Aspen, we roast, blend, grind, brew and serve the world’s greatest coffees at altitude. Because for us only one thing matters, coffee above all else.

COFFEE WITH A SOCIAL CONSCIOUS

Brazil is the largest producer of coffee in the world. But because many coffee laborers live in remote, underdeveloped areas, this prominent export comes with substantial poverty. ink! Coffee, in partnership with Socially Conscious Coffee®, is working to change that. Through this gracious non-profit, we’re helping provide education, health, and environmental programs to the most economically disadvantaged people in the coffee supply chain: laborers and their families.

We do it by partnering with one of the highest-quality coffee farmers in Brazil. With each pound of coffee we purchase, we donate a portion of our proceeds—and he matches. The result of our combined efforts includes support for 9,149 square foot community center community center on his farm in Encruzilhada, Bahia, Brazil.  Here, we have helped provide primary education to more than 100 adults and children, dental care to more than 60 children and safe drinking water and meals to the community. We’ve also helped educate more than 840 people on health and hygiene practices, disease prevention, water and food safety, and environmental stewardship. Today, the local government has built more schools, so this building now serves as a community center, and the mothers of the children who studied here are developing projects to build on what they and their children learned and to help their families and other families in the region.

Together, we also support FAMEC, a school in Vitória da Conquista, Bahia, Brazil, where the coffee cooperative is located.  We’re working together to provide safe drinking water, meals, an excellent education, psychological counseling, play-based and arts-based programs that celebrate their local culture, and lots of love to more than 150 children and youth in situations of poverty, risk, and social vulnerability.
By helping sustain an entire community, we’re doing our part to make not just our coffee—but the world—a better place. Our ultimate goal? In three years we’ll be sourcing 100% socially conscious coffee from every international vendor we work with, starting with our latest partnership in Ethiopia.

NATIONAL JEWISH HEALTH

ink! has partnered with the National Jewish Health for the last three years. National Jewish Health is near and dear to founder, Keith Herbert's heart.
His father was a patient of National Jewish Health and they helped keep him alive while he awaited a lung transplant. Starting out with sponsorship to National Jewish Health annual Beaux arts ball, The relationship grew and ink! Now has a coffee cart inside National Jewish Health. Our relationship has grown even more. Last November ink! Created a "we breathe hope" blend for National Jewish Health. Twenty percent of this blend goes back to help support Morgridge Academy. Morgridge Academy at National Jewish Health is a unique, free day school for 90 chronically ill students in kindergarten through eighth grades. Its mission is to provide a safe, friendly and healthy school environment where students succeed academically, medically and socially.

The leading respiratory hospital in the nation. For 118 years, National Jewish Health has been at the forefront of research and medicine. We integrate the latest scientific discoveries with coordinated care for lung, heart and immune diseases.

5280 AIR Society (Asthma, Immunology and Respiratory) is a group of young leaders in Denver who are invested in the National Jewish Health mission and want to make a difference. ink! first became involved with 5280 AIR Society in 2016 as an event supporter and donor.  In 2017 ink! is increasing their role by joining the group’s committee.

The 5280 AIR Society is modeled after the New York AIR Society, which started in 1991. They represent a variety of industries and will lead the next generation of the institution’s philanthropy by sharing their ideas and vision to propel our fundraising efforts, drive awareness, and pave the way for up-and-coming young leadership. Some of the members and their family had been treated for asthma, allergies and/or immune system disorders at National Jewish Health. This common tie gave them the inspiration to make their mark by supporting our events and eventually starting their own event. Since the NY AIR Society’s inception, it has raised $4 million for the institution. The 5280 AIR Society is striving to do the same.

THERE WITH CARE

There with Care's mission is to provide a wide range of thoughtful and fundamental services to children and families during the critical phases of a medical crisis. This group serves families referred by medical agencies by building a network of services and people who ease the burden of life's day-to-day obligations with compassion and care.

ink! Coffee is partnering with There with Care in 2017, donating drink cards for families during their time of need. Sometimes these families have to make choices between paying the copay of a medication or splurging on a cup of coffee. We wanted to make their lives a little bit easier and help them a little along the way. This is just one of the many ways that ink! Cares about the families that There With Care supports.
